要旨
Spawning of the chiton Acanthopleura japonica was observed for 72 hours at 23℃ under constant illumination in the laboratory in August 1984. Of sixty individuals caught at daytime spring low tide, two females and five males spawned simultaneously just before the morning high tide peak on the next day, and one female of them released eggs again on the following day. Early development and larval settlement at different temperatures are shown. Intrinsic timing mechanism for spawning is suggested.

軟体動物繋がりで今回はヒザラガイの生態について文献を調査中．調べてみると基本的な繁殖生態も把握できていなかったことを痛感する．ヒザラガイは腹足類・二枚貝類・頭足類などを含む貝類 (conchifera) とは異なりaculiferaというグループに含まれる．磯で密集している様子なども見られるが，腹足類などとは異なり雌雄異体で放精放卵を行うとのことである．発生にかかる時間なども書かれており，飼育を試みる上でもとても参考になりそう．こういう日本語の文献はわかりやすくてありがたい．なかなか少し専門から外れると勉強がおろそかになりがちやけど、機会を見つけて少しづつでも吸収していかんとなぁ．
